Mounting Guide
Precautions
Operating instructions
-
Before operation, please familiarize yourself with the structure and performance of the device as well as the precautions for operation. During operation, please keep your hand movements soft and steady, try to choose a flat area for mounting.
-
Before unpacking, please put the device case flat on the ground. Do not put the case upside down to avoid the components falling to the ground when unpacking. After opening the case, check the placement and condition of the device in the case. When finished using the device, put it into the case as it is.
-
During operation, avoid touching the lens and laser rangefinder with bare hands. To remove the dust or stains, please use air blowing, soft brush, wiping paper. Do not use fingers, clothes, paper towels, other hard objects or corrosive chemicals for cleaning.
-
When the device rotates out of order or there are abnormal noises during rotation, suspend operation immediately, identify the cause and dispose of it appropriately. Do not forcefully wrench or disassemble or hammer the device.
-
After taking out the device and its components, the device case should be closed in time to avoid sand and weeds from entering the case. Do not sit or step on the case.
Requirements
The recommended configurations for the VDA software are listed below.
Laptop computer | Industrial computer | |
---|---|---|
Processor | Intel Core i7 | Intel Core i9 |
RAM | 16G × 2 | 16G × 2 |
SSD | 1T | 2T |
System | Win 10 | Win 10 |
Data port | USB3.0 ports × 2 | Network version: PCIe port (data acquisition card) × 1, 10-Gigabit Ethernet card × 1, 10-Gigabit Ethernet ports × 2 USB version: USB3.0 ports × 2 |
Mounting Steps
Open the VDA device case, which contains the VDA body, lenses and cables. The tripod and head are included in a separate pouch.
Caution
For an all-in-one device, the cameras are fixed to the crossbar, do not remove the cameras without authorization.
Tip
We provide one or more sets of lenses with different focal lengths, which can be selected according to the measurement requirements. Check the lens datasheet in Technical Data - Camera and Lens.
VDA device mounting is divided into the following 3-step process:
1) Set up the tripod and head; 2) Mount the VDA body; 3) Connect the cables.
1. Set up the tripod and head
Caution
Please operate on a stable ground, and make sure that the tripod will not slide during mounting and measurement.
(1) Take the tripod from the case or pouch. Loosen the length control knobs on the legs, extend the tripod to the desired length.
(2) Adjust the tripod so that the top surface is almost level, tighten all three length control knobs on the bottom.
(3) Unfold the tripod and stand it on a stable surface.
(4) Loosen the clamping knob on the top of the tripod, pull out the limiting reed, then place the tripod head, the limiting reed will spring back automatically. Lock the clamping knob.
Tip
To facilitate subsequent operations, it is recommended that both knobs of the tripod head face toward the operator.
2. Mount the VDA body
Caution
During the lens mounting process, avoid dust and impurities from entering the camera.
3D Device
(1) Open the device case, hold each end of the VDA body with both hands, take out the VDA body from the case.
(2) Align the protrusion on the bottom of the VDA body with the groove on the top of the tripod head, place the VDA body into the groove. Tighten the knob on the top of the tripod head.
(3) Remove the two camera covers from the VDA body, place them back in the device case.
(4) Take the lenses from the device case, remove the lens caps and place them back in the device case.
(5) Align the left lens with the internal thread of left camera, gently rotate and tighten the lens appropriately. Mount the right lens in the same way.
Caution
The left lens must be mounted on the left camera and the right lens must be mounted on the right camera, otherwise the measurement results will be affected.
2D Device
(1) Open the device case, take the Hawkeye Box from the case by holding it firmly.
(2) Align the protrusion on the bottom of the Hawkeye Box with the groove on the top of the tripod head, place the Hawkeye Box into the groove. Tighten the knob on the top of the tripod head.
(3) Remove the Hawkeye Box camera cover, place it back in the device case.
(4) Take the lens from the device case, remove the lens cap and place it back in the device case.
(5) Align the lens with the internal thread of the camera, gently rotate and tighten the lens appropriately.
3. Connect the cables
After completing the hardware assembly, connect the VDA device to your computer.
-
USB Version
Connect the USB end of the cable to the USB3.0 port on your computer and the MicroB end to the port on VDA device.
Caution
When connecting the USB cable, make sure that the USB3.0 port on the computer is adequately powered. The cable should be connected directly to the computer, avoid adapter.
-
Network Port Version
Take the two camera power cables, the Sync Trigger Box, and the 10-Gigabit Ethernet cable from the device case. Connect the RJ45 port of the 10GbE cable to the 10GbE port of the computer, and the locking screw end of the cable to the VDA device. Connect the power cables to the cameras and the Sync Trigger Box, and then connect the power supply.
Check the Installation
After the hardware installation is completed, open any VDA software to check whether the installation is successful. If it is successful, the Home page will display the device information. After clicking into the Online Calibration page, you can check the camera view normally.
Reinforcement
After the mounting is completed, make sure the connection screws are securely locked and the tripod screws are tightened. If necessary, the device can be reinforced.
-
If you are measuring on dirt ground, you need to fix the bottom of the tripod properly to prevent the device from sinking.
-
If measuring on smooth ground, you need to add non-slip mats on the bottom of the tripod to prevent the tripod from slipping.
-
If outdoors, the device can also be mounted on a poured concrete pier to ensure the stability.
Lighting
When the measurement environment is poorly lit, a diffuse light source with moderate brightness should be used for illumination, and a searchlight can be installed above the VDA device. Before measurement, adjust the position and angle of the light source to avoid shadows or localized highlights in the target area.
